Schleswig-Holstein
Schleswig-Holstein:
The Rise of Nationalism Before the 1848 Revolution

This is the major project I wrote for my German degree. It discusses more of the history of Schleswig-Holstein and the need of the people to culturally identify themselves as German.
Short History of Schleswig-Holstein
This is a short history of Schleswig-Holstein, 1800-1870 which I wrote in 1989 to help myself figure out what went on during that time and to help answer my question: why did they leave?
Bothmann Name
What does the name Bothmann mean?
Bothmann originates in Hamburg, and is related to the names Both, Böther, and Böteführ. The names Both, Bothe come from the towns Hamburg, Hannover, Brauschweig, Rostock, etc. corresponding to frequency and popularity of the given names Bode, which is the short form of Segebode, Sigbot, Seeboth, Gerbode, Rikbode, & Herbode. The extension of Bodeman lives today as Bothmann, often in Hamburg, not far from the original name "Bootsmans", the seaman1. Some recorded uses from the Middle Ages are Friedrich Bothman 1296 in Hamburg; Robeke Botmakere in 1293; Thid. Botmeker in 1307.

From Niederdeutsches Namenbuch = <Low German Name Book> by Hans Bahlow.
1Litteraly "boat-man", the High German is Schiffer.
